These guidelines are intended to provide a description of ways in which pharmacists can improve access to health care, health promotion and the use of medicines on behalf of the patients they serve.

Developed jointly by WHO and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), the guidelines outline four main roles, functions and activities for pharmacists: 1. Prepare, obtain, store, secure, distribute, administer, dispense, and dispose of medical products. 2. Provide effective medication therapy management. 3. Maintain and improve professional performance. 4. Contribute to improve effectiveness of the health-care system and public health.
